the field of Advanced Minimally Invasive surgery
and Bariatric surgery at The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Cussatti is an

the American College of Surgeons. His private practice is focused on minimally invasive surgery, specializing on
the surgical treatment and cure of obesity.
Introduction
Morbid Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in our society. Approximately 100 million Americans are overweight or obese in
the United States. This alarming statistics has shown no signs of reversal Recent population studies also show
the trend involving younger Americans in their teens. With the increasing weight of
the average American comes ever increasing rates of as many as thirty life threatening illnesses. These illnesses devastate quality of life and shorten
the lives of obese
patients by up to 12-14 years. Fortunately, significant and lasting weight loss has
dramatic effects
on a patient's health and can indeed prolong life.
Surgical options for weight reductions are the only reliable and long term
effective treatments for morbid obesity. Studies have repeatedly demonstrated
that diet and exercise, drugs and behavioral modification, alone or in combination, fail to provide significant and lasting weight loss for
the obese beyond 1-2 years. Depending on the weight reduction procedure chosen, a
patient can expect long term excess weight loss in the rage of 55-85%. With this kind of weight loss, patients routinely experience significant improvement and even cure of most of
the illnesses that threaten their health and happiness.
Program Outline
Dr. Cussatti employs a comprehensive evaluation and treatment program for the obese
patient. The initial evaluation process is a crucial component to achieving safe and
effective long-tern weight loss with bariatric surgery),. The initial step in
the process involves an in-depth group seminar. During the seminar, the patient is provided
with all the crucial information that is needed in order to make a well educated decision regarding
the surgical options available. The presentation and the materials provided are easy to understand and interactive so that no question is left unanswered.
The patient then undergoes a comprehensive and multi-specialty evaluation as part of
the pre-operative program. The goal is to ensure that the patient is in optimal physical and
emotional condition to undergo the procedure of their choice. Evaluations include check-ups by Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, and Pyschologists. The
patients must also have a full consultation with a Nutritionist and attend a Support group meeting
with other obese patients in various stages of the program. Assistance and
information is provided throughout the process in order to ensure a thorough understanding of
the evaluations and their importance.
At the conclusion of this pre-operative evaluation program the patient is in optimal
condition to decide which procedure to undergo. This decision is made with the help of Dr. Cussatti's
recommendations as to which procedure would be safest and most effective in each individual case The vast majority of
the procedures are performed with advanced minimally invasive techniques These
techniques allow for faster recoveries and lower overall risks, while still providing a high degree of safety to
the patient undergoing the procedure. Dr. Cussatti's program and advanced training in
the field of Bariatrics provides his patients with this significant advantage towards success.
